My original plan in chatting with Vicki Wusche was that we discuss how she has grown her business through public speaking and become an expert in property investing through her books. We had a few other topics in mind too and we decided to save them all for another time and discuss what is going on now and how we might help ourselves to create a better future once this crisis is over.

There are times we could all do with being or at least feeling more confident. In terms of presenting and having presence and influence in your environment, confidence is a critical element.
I have known Jules for many years and there are few people more experienced in this area who I would rather talk to. We talk about all sorts of other stuff too, much related to the personal development industry and some of the good and bad we have experienced there.

The ability to present and communicate well is no longer a soft business skill, it’s a critical business and leadership requirement. I first came across the concept of gamification reading Nir Eyal’s book ‘Hooked’ but I could not say for sure I had fully grasped it, I just understood that it was a powerful tool for increasing engagement, specifically for online courses and information products but in other ways also.
When Alyea approached me about being a guest on the show, I was excited as people with expertise in this area seem to be hard to come by. No matter what kind of business you are in, gamification is a useful tool to be able to understand and apply and if you’re not familiar with this, Alyea gives a great introduction and explanation in our chat.
Alyea is a play and game consultant. She currently works with entrepreneurs helping them playify their products and services. She has worked on several educational games and non-profit game projects as well as conducted game and virtual reality research at the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences. She was a co-founder of the diversity group for the Digital Games Research Association as well as serving as a conference associate for the Game Developers Conference for four years. She has a PhD in game production, where she studied independent game designers.
Alyea is originally from Colombia but considers herself a world citizen as she has lived in Costa Rica, Florida, Texas and California (and has travelled to many countries). She now lives in Amsterdam, Netherlands, where she learned to love (with a capital L) hageslag (chocolate sprinkles with bread and butter). When she is not working, you can find her either on the dance floor, hanging with friends or drinking a mean cortado while going down the rabbit hole of UFO youtube videos.

We talk about quite a few other things, some of them potentially controversial. I thought about bleeping some names and even cutting some parts completely but... I decided, in the end, to throw it all out to the world and let the dice land where they may.
I wanted to do this in 2 parts but just couldn't find a good point to stop where it would make sense.
My interest in speaking with Frederik was piqued when he mentioned that he has a background in diplomatic and intelligence services. We're not talking James Bond here... or are we?
I know I was fascinated to find out more about Frederik and to hear more about covert influence and trust tactics that he has experience with. The conversation was indeed fascinating and there's a ton of stuff I would have loved to talk about and did not have the time. I hope we can get Frederik back as a guest in the future.
