Present Influence

Healthy Influence with guest Andrea Wilson Woods

Speaking Influence

Few of us could imagine ending up with full custody of a younger sibling and becoming the primary caregiver for them and then discovering they had a terminal condition as they turned 15 years old but that is the story of my guest Andrea Wilson Woods who has gone on to become an advocate for better cancer healthcare and treatments in the US, especially for sufferers of liver cancer, the disease that she sadly lost her sister Adrienne to.

In this episode:

  • The challenges of becoming a health advocate
  • Channelling grief into something good
  • How one person really can make a difference
  • The realities of trying to make change through political channels
  • What kept Andrea going when she felt like quitting
  • What you need to know if you're starting an NGO
  • The power of storytelling in creating change
  • Andrea's very first experience talking about her story in public

and much more besides.

I apologise once again for the interview cutting out early,  just as Andrea was telling us about her book. However, you can check the book out here: Better Off Bald: a life in 147 days and if you'd like to know more about Andrea's non-profit Blue Faery, you can check it out here:

Andrea's book recommendation was Blue Ocean Strategy by W. Chan Kim and Renee Mauborgne.

Once again, thanks for listening to the show and if you got any value or lessons from this episode, please share it with your network. I will soon let you know the details of the new show sponsor and also my new book which will be launching in 2022, all about building professional influence through podcasting.
